These citations have been used to research the effects that repetitive behaviour can have on individuals, how an artistic practice can be used as a form of therapy, and how the implementation of regiments can be used to increase productivity. I have also researched case studies where other artists and designers have participated in similar practices and the experiences that they have had with it.

1. Admin.“Repetitive Behaviours Are a Way to Relieve Stress.” The Art of Autism,3 Sept. 2018, https://the-art-of-autism.com/repetitive-behaviors-are-a-way-to-relieve-stress/.
This isa web article; about how repetitive behaviours can relieve stress. This article was written about in an interview style, where a man with autism was interviewed about how repetitive behaviour is used to relieve stress in his life. I believe that this article has significant relevance to my project because it exemplifies how repetition, in some form is used to help relax, and better one’s mental health. My project uses this theory, and pushes it further due to the fact that my repetitive behaviour is based in a creative field.
2. Brennan,Mike. “Why Did I Create Daily Art for Six Straight Years?” Medium, ART Marketing, 11 Sept. 2018, https://artplusmarketing.com/why-did-i-create-daily- art-for-six-straight-years-9cf0edea1e28.
This is another web article, and it interviews an individual by the name of MikeBrennan. For the last 6 years Brennan has been creating a daily drawing, and posting his drawings onto his blog. Brennen talks about starting this challenge after experiencing emotional pain, he was soon after diagnosed with a form of depression called Dysthymia. He said he began to journal daily, and pray intensely, trying to do anything to improve his mental health. He decided to start creating art again after a 10-year hiatus. He decided that he would try his hand at 365days of drawing and painting. He began to speak about how liberating this process was, “I needed art for my soul”. Brennan said that as he continued he felt depression fade, and in place was drive and passion. It makes sense thatBrennan was able to do this for6 years. As he said it gave him purpose, and this is exactly what I am trying to uncover with my thesis project.Everything that Brennan had mentioned I could relate to at some point.
3. “DesignSomething Every Day!” Smashing Magazine, 22 Dec. 2009, https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/12/design-something-every-day/.
This article, interviews a selection of artists who have participated in some form of High Frequency Output practice. Not all of the artists participated in a yearlong project, however they have participated in some form of a daily artistic practice. These artists have given their experiences and the effects that this practice has had on their art. I am using this citation, to get different perspectives from multiple artists. The opinions brought to attention after reading this article were all quite similar. Almost all artist mention how it increases productivity and creativity. They talk about how good they feel after creating their work, and the sense of pride it creates.
4. “Dissociation,Repetition–Compulsion, and the Art of Frida Kahlo.” Journal of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, https://guilfordjournals.com/doi/abs/10.1521/jaap.1.1999.27.3.387?journalCode=jaap.1.
This journal, speaks on the topic ofFrida Kahlo’s artistic practice, and how her upbringing could have impacted her creative process. Someone’s history, can have a major impact on the reason why someone would create something. I was interested with this because the main reason why I started this challenge again was due to my poor mental health. I had been struggling to find myself, and I was looking for a purpose. I wanted to something to call my own, andHigh Frequency Output was the answer. Overall, I liked this article because it mentions how mental health can affect someone’s artistic practice.
5. “Doing, Re-Doing and Undoing: Practice,Repetition and Critical Evaluation as Mechanismsfor Learning in a Dance Technique Class 'Laboratory'.” Taylor & Francis,https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/19443927.2011.545253? casa_token=CLpwCM6C_i8AAAAA:GI8dNY70_G98YFEFffHAUrk3RqNCFRvm3Xa6fXPTej2KbPcSqH0GS52BZ83TR2-DrSleh8p6CIJlsQ.
This journal investigates dancers, and how repetition is used to identify the dancers strengths and weaknesses. Like in everything repetition is the key to success, and these dancers are using these techniques so maximize success. In my field, I have learned that repetition is the fastest way to succeed at something. It is the debate of quality over quantity, and quantity over quality. I argue that it is more important to make something, no matter what the quality is, and continue to make things with high frequency. This process will inevitably create work that is lower quality ,however some of these creations will be high quality. The quality comes with quantity, and that is something that Ido not think enough people understand. It is always better to make something that is poor, versus not making anything. At the end of the day, the individual will be learning.
6. Edwards, David G. Art Therapy.SAGE, 2014.
This book describes the history of art as a form of therapy, and how it has been used throughout history. The book is broken down into 7chapters. These chapters range from, what art therapy is, how it is used in the professional field, how it is practiced, and how to be trained in it. Art therapy is an essential part to my thesis project because at its core art therapy is what my project is based upon. I have learned how effective creativity can be asa form of therapy.

This citation talks about what an Autoethnographic research method is. Autoethnography is a research method that compares personal experience, with the experiences of a group of people. Since I am using Autoethnography for my research method, I Figured that I should have a citation that describes what this is.
8. “Futureland:Alpha.” Futureland, InternetVin, https://internetvin.com/futureland-alpha/.
This is the website of Vin Verma, the individual that had introduced me to the concept of high frequency output. He has been participating in this process for over three years, he had also developed an app that allows other people to share their high frequency output project. He has created a community of creatives who have been participating in this process where they can talk to each other about what they are doing. The struggles that they have encountered, and a great support system to keep other people motivated. This app is also viewable through this website.
9. Popova,Maria. “How Repetition Enchants the Brain and the Psychology of Why We Love It in Music.” Brain Pickings,14 Feb. 2016, https://www.brainpickings.org/2014/09/18/on-repeat-margulis/.
This article talks about how the brain is attracted to repletion, and how it is conveyed through music. The brain is attracted to repetitive behaviours, and in music this is quite relevant. The beat of a song is what ties the entire song together, and without the beat there would be no rhythm and would be much harder to comprehend or follow. I found this very interesting and I wanted this to apply to my work. Creating something that can be easily understood to the masses was very enticing to me. I started to create works that followed a similar theme, so that even though every day there was a new design, there would be thematic coherence, that my followers could expect.

Similarly, to the other citation about art therapy this citation, displays how art therapy can be implemented and different techniques that can be used to create effective art therapy. In chapter 2 there is a section of the book called “Foundations for a Theory of Practice” This chapter explains how in art making, how can ritual and play be introduced to create therapeutic change. This is being used to further explain how I am using my creative process as not only a chance to improve my creative ability but to also improve my mental health.
11. Vrettos, Athena. “Defining Habits:Dickens and the Psychology of Repetition.” Victorian Studies, Indiana University Press, 1 Apr.2000, https://muse.jhu.edu/article/35693/summary.
This citation talks about how repetition has a massive contribution to someone’s character. The things that individuals choose to do repeatedly, will have an obvious impact on how someone chooses to run their daily life. Repetitive behaviour is one of the most common traits of a human, and depending on what the individual is repeatedly doing with determine where there is a negative or positive impact. Before I started this challenge my repetitive behaviour was extremely different than what it is now. When I was going through my darkest times the behaviours that I would participate in would involve sitting at home, watching television and eating. I was extremely unmotivated and had no passion. I was lost, and my repetitive behaviours were adding nothing to my life. This is when I decided to change. I noticed that these behaviours were toxic, and needed to work on it. In the beginning, I decided to stop drinking, and go vegan. I was terribly unhealthy, and I figured that if my diet changed so might my mentality. A few months went by and I started to lose some weight. I could see change for the first time in a long time, and I really liked that. When I started school this year I decided to start creating daily designs again to fulfil my creative desires. I have been going extremely strong with this, and I have noticed a massive improvement in my mental health. To top everything off, two months ago I decided to start going to the gym. I have tried to do everything in my power to change my old habits, and to make my new habits repetitive, so that these behaviours become second nature.
12. “We Feel Fine / by Jonathan Harris andSep Kamvar.” We Feel Fine / by Jonathan Harris and Sep Kamvar, http://wefeelfine.org/.
This is citation is the website of an individual named Jonathan Harris, he created a website that inputs emotional data from people all over the world. People will comment on how they are feeling, and this gets put into a network that compares emotions, negative or positive worldwide. I am using this because it relates to how I am comparing my emotional data to my previous emotions daily. I like the idea of creating a visual representation of my emotions and how they might change throughout my daily designs.
